Work has been continuing since the last blog post to lay another area of paving, again in Indian sandstone just the other side of the main entrance where previously there had been a tarmac.
In this area there is another seating area, this time with rectangular tables that will when finished have a Japanese inspiration behind them. These again will have trees as centre pieces and to offer natural shade, they will also be finished in the same Camaru wood as the seats in the first phase area.

Update: 26th November 2013
Phase two of the refurbishment has now commenced. The access to the park via Cockpit Lane car park is closed temporarily to allow the workers access to refurbish this area of the park.
Access to the main grassed areas of the park is retained via the entrance to the rear along the path that runs the length of the park.

Update: 21st November 2013
Work has
progressed with the bespoke tables being completed with Camuru wood cladding covering
the base structure. The first paved area has been completed and a wide sweeping
gravel path laid from this area towards the main entrance. The plastic
hardstanding is being removed from the soon to be turfed areas and new planting
beds.
Also the
entrance wall is being remodelled to create a more focused entrance to the
park.
Work in
this first section is almost complete and will be moving into more of the park
over the next few weeks.
The photo below shows one of the completed seating areas.

Update: 24th October 2013
10 days into the refurbishment of Howard Palmer Gardens, part of the garden has been fenced off, the ground has been prepared and work has begun with tables with integral seating being constructed on site and Indian Sandstone paving being laid around them. The tables have been designed to include designated space for wheel chair users.
Other works in this area will include planting trees in the centre of
the tables to create a natural canopy and shade and other planting to soften
the hard standing, including climbers such as wisteria and honeysuckle which
will also add fragrance.
More photos on this project can be found on our Flickr site.

Work starts on the 15th October
For anyone who has been in the vicinity of Howard Palmer Gardens you may have noticed a number of signs indicating that works will start to re-landscape the park on the 15th October 2013.
The work will be undertaken in three phases, with the intention to retain access to parts of the park not currently undergoing significant work to the public. It is estimated that the works will take approximately 3-4 months to complete.
The work is being undertaken by the Windsor based Berkshire Garden and Design.

Howard Palmer Gardens

Howard Palmer Gardens is currently a pleasant,
if plain, patch of green space within the town that is starting to look a little
dated and in need of refurbishment. While we keep the green space neat and tidy
it does not have the planting beds and colour we would like to see.
Mostly used by town centre workers for a quiet place to have their lunch,
Howard Palmer Gardens
will be re-landscaped to create a really pleasant and calm place for everyone
to enjoy. A company has been chosen by the Amenities Committee here at the
Council to redevelop the site and soon we intend to be able to show you more
about the winning design and contractor.
This blog will keep you abreast of the process, detailing how Howard Palmer
Gardens is transformed into
a really special location at the heart of the Town.
